Self-Discipline - Symbol

Self-Discipline: Choosing What You Can Control

One of the most compassionate—and confronting—messages I’ve received from the Akashic Records recently was this:

You get frustrated trying to control what you can’t, and choose not to focus on the things you can control.

That sentence landed with unmistakable clarity. Not judgment. Not criticism.

Truth.

So many of us expend enormous energy trying to manage outcomes, timelines, other people’s behavior, or how life “should” unfold. And yet, the simple, powerful choices that are within our reach—how we nourish our bodies, how we move, how we show up for the next step of our own becoming—are often the very things we postpone or avoid altogether.

The Records were clear: self-discipline is not about restriction or force. It is about alignment.

Control Is Being Misused

The Records shared that when we feel restless, stuck, or dissatisfied, it’s not because we don’t know what to do. It’s often because we do—and we’re not doing it.

We try to control:

·        When results will arrive

·        How quickly growth should happen

·        Whether change will feel comfortable

·        Whether effort will be required

But the Records gently redirect us: You don’t need to control the outcome. You need to participate in the process.

You cannot control when the harvest ripens—but you can plant, water, tend, and return to the field every day.

Self-Discipline Is a Form of Self-Respect

The Records did not say, You don’t like your life.

They said, You are done with that chapter.

That distinction matters.

Self-discipline emerges naturally when something inside you knows: I have outgrown this version of myself. Not out of dislike, but completion.

Self-discipline looks like:

·        Choosing nourishment over numbness

·        Choosing movement over stagnation

·        Choosing the next step over endless preparation

·        Choosing action over waiting to feel “ready”

The Records were blunt in the most loving way: You want the results without putting in the effort.

Not as an accusation—but as an invitation back into integrity.

Restlessness Is Energy Asking for Direction

Many people interpret restlessness as a sign to pause, distract, or wait it out.

The Records say it can be the opposite.

Restlessness can be forward energy with no outlet. When you ignore it, it turns into stress. When you suppress it, it turns into dissatisfaction.

When you listen to it, it becomes momentum.

Quit ignoring it. Quit wondering. Quit waiting.

You get frustrated trying to control what you can’t.

You choose not to focus on what you can control.

Often you don’t act simply because you’re unsure how to begin.

The Records reminded me that learning is not something you complete before you move forward. Everything you learn, you learn by doing. There is no shortcut around the learning curve—only through it.

“1-2-3-GO” Is Spiritual Instruction

The Records don’t always whisper. Sometimes they cheer.

Strive for this.

Want it.

Imagine yourself on the other side of the learning curve.

That’s not pressure. That’s permission.

·        Permission to stop negotiating with fear.

·        Permission to stop circling the same questions.

·        Permission to stop treating readiness as a future condition.

Now is not the time to perfect the plan.

Now is the time to engage your will.

Self-discipline is not harsh. It is clarifying.

It says: I choose to act in alignment with who I am becoming.

Love Without Enabling

The most important line in the message from my Records may be this:

We love you.

The Records never withdraw love—but they also do not enable stagnation.

They remind us: It is easier to stay put, yet staying put often creates stress and restlessness.

Growth requires effort, and effort is not punishment

When you stop trying to control what you cannot, and begin honoring what you can, life begins to move again.

Not magically.

Not instantly.

But honestly.

And that honesty is where peace—and momentum—returns.
