"Beloved ones, your energy is precious. Where you place your energy matters. Choose consciously what you wish to nurture, strengthen, and bring more fully into your life.” — The Akashic Records
When many people hear the words self-discipline, they think of willpower, sacrifice, or forcing themselves to do something.
The Records offer a different perspective on self-discipline. Rather than focusing on willpower or self-control, self-discipline becomes the practice of aligning our time, attention, and energy with what matters most.
From the perspective of the Records, self-discipline is not an act of self-denial. It is an act of self-honoring.
It is a way of recognizing that your energy is valuable and choosing to invest it in what is meaningful, aligned, and supportive of the life you wish to create.
Many of us think about energy as something physical. We think about how much energy we have, how much we have used, or whether we feel rested or depleted. The Records invite us to consider a broader perspective.
Energy is also present in where we place our time, our focus, our attention, and our care.
Every day, we are nurturing something.
We nurture our relationships through the attention we give them.
We nurture our dreams through the actions we take toward them.
We nurture our wellbeing through the choices we make.
We even nurture our fears, frustrations, and worries when we repeatedly return our focus to them.
This is not about judgment. It is simply an invitation to awareness.
What are you nourishing?
Many people discover that significant portions of their energy are being directed toward things they never consciously chose.
Hours spent consuming information that leaves them feeling discouraged. Responsibilities that no longer feel aligned.
Relationships that continually ask for their attention while offering little in return.
Thought patterns that replay old stories and familiar concerns.
Meanwhile, the things they most want to cultivate—joy, creativity, connection, purpose, health, peace, or a cherished dream—receive whatever energy remains.
The Records remind us that true self-discipline is not about forcing. It is about choosing alignment.
Each time you choose where to invest your time, focus, attention, and energy, you are choosing what you wish to strengthen in your life.
Not every opportunity requires your participation.
Not every request requires your agreement.
Not every thought deserves your continued attention.
You are allowed to be discerning.
You are allowed to choose.
You are allowed to invest your energy in ways that support the life you are creating.
When you become more conscious of where your energy is going, you become more conscious of what you are helping to grow.
Today, consider what you are nurturing through your time, your focus, your attention, and your care.
Are those investments supporting the life you wish to create? If not, perhaps self-discipline is not about doing more.
Perhaps it is about choosing differently.
Affirmation
I honor my energy by choosing where I invest my time, attention, and focus. I nurture what is aligned with the life I wish to create.
